Choosing micanite sheet: grade, binder and service conditions

A practical guide to selecting rigid, flexible or heat-resisting micanite and verifying the complete finished-product rating.

Micanite sheet for electrical and thermal insulation

Match the product form to the job

Micanite is a bonded mica product used in electrical and thermal insulation applications. PNR lists flexible, heat-resisting and moulding micanite products, as well as fabricated components. The right form depends on whether the part must bend, retain a rigid shape, be moulded, or fit a specific assembly.

Ask about the binder and construction

A mica mineral’s general temperature reference does not establish the rating of a bonded sheet. Binder type, reinforcement, thickness, manufacturing method, geometry and the surrounding assembly can change performance. PNR’s product pages describe shellac-bonded and heat-resisting options; confirm the current construction and specification for the grade being quoted.

Share the service conditions

For supplier review, state continuous and peak temperature, exposure time, electrical duty, load, atmosphere, dimensions, thickness, flexibility or shape requirements and quantity. Identify applicable drawing revisions and required evidence. Do not rely on a generic maximum temperature without confirmation for the finished component.
