Two mica families
Muscovite and phlogopite are distinct mica minerals used across natural sheet, processed and engineered product ranges. PNR’s technical library gives general reference densities of 2.77–2.88 g/cm³ for muscovite and 2.7–2.9 g/cm³ for phlogopite. Both pages list a Mohs hardness range of 2–2.5.
Treat temperature values carefully
PNR publishes approximate maximum operating-temperature reference ranges of 500–600°C for muscovite and 800–900°C for phlogopite. These figures are general material references. They are not a guaranteed continuous-use rating for a finished part: product construction, binder, geometry, electrical or mechanical load, atmosphere and exposure time all affect suitability.
Select for the complete application
Before choosing, describe peak and continuous temperatures, duration, load, electrical conditions, environment and the finished component. A bonded sheet or fabricated assembly may have limits different from the raw mineral reference. Ask the supplier to confirm the grade and finished-product specification for the actual service conditions.
